CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The University of Virginia softball team begins a nine-day West Coast road trip by playing a doubleheader at Sacramento State Saturday (March 6) at 3:00 p.m. Eastern Time. The Cavaliers will play four doubleheaders during their spring break trip before competing in the National Invitational Softball Tournament (NIST) March 12-14 in San Jose, Calif.

In addition to Saturday’s doubleheader at Sacramento State, UVa will square off against Santa Clara in a twinbill on Sunday (March 7) at 3:00 p.m. ET in Santa Clara, Calif. The Cavaliers, who stand at 9-5 on the season, then play doubleheaders at Fresno State and at Pacific on Tuesday and Wednesday, March 9 and 10, respectively. Virginia rounds out its play in California by competing in the National Invitational Softball Tournament. In pool play, the Cavaliers will take on Purdue and California-Berkeley on Friday (March 12). UVa will begin bracket play on Saturday (March 13).

The West Coast trip will provide stiff competition for the Cavaliers as three of UVa’s opponent’s are ranked in the USAToday/NFCA Top 25 Poll released February 29. California is the fourth-ranked team in the country. Fresno State is tied for 15th, while Pacific is ranked 18th in the nation.
