BAHAMA, N.C. – The University of Virginia women’s rowing team won every race from Duke University on Saturday (March 6) as the Cavaliers successfully opened the spring portion of their 2003-04 schedule. The regatta was held on Lake Michie.

The regatta started with three 2000-meter races. Virginia’s “A” crew won the varsity four race with a time of 7:27.1 followed by Duke (7:37.2) and Virginia “B” (7:46.3). UVa’s second varsity eight crew finished in a time of 6:45.9 to defeat Duke (7:05.9) in that competition. The Cavaliers’ first varsity eight had a time of 6:36.5 to defeat Duke (6:39.8).

There were also two 1000-meter races for each crew. In the first 1000-meter races, Virginia’s “A” crew won the varsity four race with a time of 3:50.7 followed by Duke (3:55.8) and Virginia “B” (3:59.6). UVa’s second varsity eight crew finished in a time of 3:23.4 to defeat Duke (3:32.2). The Cavaliers’ first varsity eight had a time of 3:19.2 to defeat Duke (3:24.4).

In the second 1000-meter races, Virginia’s “A” crew won the varsity four race with a time of 3:48.9 followed by Virginia “B” (3:54.0) and Duke (3:57.7). UVa’s second varsity eight crew finished in a time of 3:22.6 to defeat Duke (3:34.3). The Cavaliers’ first varsity eight had a time of 3:18.0 to defeat Duke (3:21.5).

UVa returns to action on March 13 when the Cavaliers host Columbia University at the Rivanna Reservoir. The regatta is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
