Women's Golf Stands 13th at Lady Gator Invite

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Virginia women’s golf team opened its spring season against tough competition at the Lady Gator Invitational. UVa stands tied for 13th after the first round of action.
ACC rival Duke leads the field of 15 with a 292 (+12). Michigan State and Ohio State are tied for second with a 299 (+19). The Cavaliers are tied with Arkansas and Central Florida with a 322 (+42).
Individually, Michigan State’s Allison Fouch is the only player to fire a one-under 69. Duke’s Brittany Land and Tennessee’s Violeta Retamoza are tied for second with a 72 (+2).
Freshman Rachel Smith (Powell, Tenn.) paces the Cavaliers with a 78 (+8) to tie at 35th. Freshmen Sally Shonk (Nobelsville, Ind.) and Leah Wigger (Louisville, Ky.) follow with a 81 (+11) each. Freshman Ashley Mayo (Aventura, Fla.) follows by one stroke with a 82 (+12). Freshman Lindsay Robinson (Huntington, W.V.) shot a 85 (+15).
Play at the Lady Gator Invitational continues on March 8-9. Tee times begin at 8 a.m. each day at the par-70 University Golf Course.
