RALEIGH, N.C. – Elton Brown and Devin Smith of the University of Virginia are honorable mention selections to the 2004 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Basketball Team.

Brown, a 6-9 junior from Newport News, Va., is Virginia’s leading scorer (15.0 ppg.) and rebounder (6.4 rpg.). He is shooting 50.2 percent (147-293) from the field and has scored more than 20 points in eight games. He has led the team in scoring a team-high 14 times and in rebounding a team-high 10 times during the 2003-04 season.

Despite being hampered by a back injury, Smith is averaging 12.8 points and 5.3 rebounds a game in the 24 games he’s played in this season. A 6-5 junior from New Castle, Del., he has led the team in scoring seven times and in rebounding seven times. His three-point play with 5.8 seconds left in the game provided the margin of victory in the Cavaliers’ 84-82 win over Wake Forest University on March 2.

Virginia opens play in the 2004 Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament on Thursday (March 11) against Clemson University in Greensboro, N.C. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. and will be televised by ESPN.
