CHARLOTTESVILLE – The University of Virginia women’s rowing team won every race against Columbia University on Saturday (March 13) at the Rivanna Reservoir. It marked the second regatta in a row that Virginia won every race in the competition. The Cavaliers swept every race from Duke University on Lake Michie in Bahama, N.C., on March 6.

In the regatta against Columbia, UVa’s first varsity eight crew finished in a time of 6:46.6 to defeat Columbia (7:03.7).

Virginia’s second varsity eight had a time of 6:54.1 and Columbia finished in 7:21.8.

In the varsity four competition, the Cavaliers’ “A” boat finished with a time of 7:47.1 followed by Virginia’s “B” boat (8:05.6) and Columbia (8:22.4).

UVa’s “A” boat won the novice eight competition with a time of 7:19.3 followed by Columbia (7:34.3) and Virginia’s “B” boat (7:53.3).

“Overall, I thought it was a good day for us,” said Virginia head coach Kevin Sauer. “We looked pretty good. We showed some good speed and we’ll continue to work on that for the next few weeks.”

The Cavaliers return to action on March 27-28 when they compete against California-Berkeley, Stanford and Washington State at the Windermere Crew Classic in Redwood Shores, Calif.
