Virginia Tied for Ninth at Anteater Invitational

COTO DE CAZA, CALIF. – Virginia women’s golf stands tied for ninth after the first day of action at UC Irvine’s Anteater Invitational on Monday.

San Francisco leads the field of 13 teams by 21 strokes with a 586 (+10). Brigham Young is second with a 607 (+31), while Michigan is third at 612 (+36). The Cavaliers shot a 625 (+49) to tie Colorado State for ninth place.

Four San Francisco players finished among the top five, including Nikki Jacoby who paces the field with a 145 (+1). Teammate Kristi Larsen follows by a stroke with a 146 (+2), while Joan Shimozaki and Cal State Northridge’s Elizabeth Allen are tied for third with a 147 (+3) each.

Freshman Sally Shonk (Nobelsville, Ind.) paces Virginia with a 153 (+9) to tie for 18th. Freshman Lindsay Robinson (Huntington, W.V.) is tied for 35th with a 157 (+13), while freshman Leah Wigger (Louisville, Ky.) is tied for 41st with a 158 (+14). Freshman Rachel Smith (Powell, Tenn.) follows by a stroke with a 159 (+15), while freshman Ashley Mayo (Aventura, Fla.) rounded out the UVa scoring with a 162 (+18).

The final round of UC Irvine’s Anteater Invitational tees off at 8 a.m. PST on Tuesday, March 16 at the Coto de Caza Golf and Country Club.
