Virginia’s Erin Crawford won her first 400 hurdle final as a collegian, finishing in 60.19 and becoming the #7 all-time performer in that event at Virginia. She was joined in the winner’s circle by Sharon O’Connor, who won the 1500m with a 4:30.13, and Cheryl Carr, who took home the gold in the 3K with a 10:07.04 at the outdoor opener for the Cavaliers. Virginia took 1st and 3rd in both distance events as Janine Ricci ran a 4:36.11 in the 1500 and Kelly Behan finished in 10:07.77 for the bronze.

All-American Inge Jorgensen led a 2-3-4 run for the Cavaliers in the javelin, tossing a 160′ 3″ in her first meet back in two years. Teammates Sarah Convery (134′ 3″) and defending ACC Champion Annie Bobiak (129′ 11″) finished just behind Jorgensen. Virginia also went 2-3 in the high jump as first year Meggie Shuelke and second-year Rachel Marks both jumped 5′ 8″. O’Connor added to her first place in the 1500 with a fourth place finish in the 800 with a 2:14.64, just ahead of teammate Shannon Hawrylo, who took sixth with a 2:15.82. Caroline Harvey also placed in the top six with her placement in the 100m dash with an 11.90. Virginia’s three pole vaulters, Lauren Taggart (6th, 10’8″), Kathryn Pettine (t7th, 10′ 2″) and Alicia LaRoche (t7th, 10′ 2″) were also top-eight finishers while Tomika Fergasun took fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 39′ 5″.

On the men’s side, McGavock Dunbar took home the bronze in the 1500m with a 3;53.47. Herb Reid and James Atchinson both finished in fourth as Reid ran the 400 hurdles in 55.28 and Atchinson finished with a 9:40.99 in the steeple. Jason Young finished fifth in the 200 with a 21.51 while Jon Britt also finished fifth, running a 1:53.91 in the 800m, just ahead of teammate Matt Antunes, who ran a 1:54.21 and took sixth. Ryan Neuhart also took sixth, running the 3K in 8:42.10. Walker Anderson also took home a pair of sixth-place finishes with his hammer throw of 169′ 9″ and shot put of 48′ .75″. Isi Azeke also finished sixth, covering the 110 hurdles in a 14.73 while Chris Clementson took sixth in the high jump with a 6′ 4.75″.
