ST. LOUIS, Missouri – University of Virginia wrestlers Scott Moore (Franklin, Pa./Franklin Academy) and Tim Foley (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point) put the finishing touches on two of the most decorated wrestling careers ever in the history of UVa wrestling. Moore and Foley finished third and eighth respectively in the 2004 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships at the Savvis Center. The duo became just the eighth and ninth All-American wrestlers ever to come from UVa following their outstanding performances at Nationals. The two wrestlers are the first Cavaliers to gain such an honor at Virginia since former Cavalier Steve Garland accomplished the feat with a national runner-up finish at 125-pounds at Nationals back in 2000.

Moore, ranked #1 in the country and the top seed at 141-pounds, finished 5-1 at Nationals and ended the 2004-04 season with a record of 51-1 overall, 17-0 in dual match action with 34 wins coming by fall. He also recorded four technical falls wins and two major decision victories. Foley, ranked #11 in the nation and the #11 seed at 165-pounds, went 4-3 at Nationals and ended the 2003-04 season with a record of 38-7 overall, 16-1 in dual matches including 13 wins by fall, seven major decision victories and three wins by technical falls.

Both wrestlers have etched their names into numerous categories in the UVa wrestling record books. Moore shattered both the single-season and career records for most falls at Virginia in just one year as a Cavalier. Moore’s 34 falls this season broke the former UVa single-season record of 11 and the career record of 28. His 51 single-season wins this year ranks him first all-time at Virginia for a single season and his 17 dual matches wins this year is the second best mark ever at UVa. Moore’s .981 winning percentage this season is the second best winning percentage for a single season at Virginia ever. Moore set the Virginia school record for most matches competed in for a single season with 52. He also ranks tied for fourth all-time at UVa for most dual matches competed in for a single season with 17.

Prior to Nationals, Moore was named the ACC Wrestler of the Week four times and had taken first place or won all seven events/competitions he competed in this year. Moore took first place at the Mat Jam ACC Wrestling Championships, the Michigan State Open, Cornell’s Body Bar Invitational, the Mat Town USA Invitational, the Collegiate Beast of the East, UNC Greensboro’s South Scuffle, the Virginia Intercollegiate State Wrestling Championships and won his match at the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) All-Star Classic.

Foley ended his UVa career with an overall record of 114-35, including a mark of 49-3 in dual match action. His 114 career wins is second all-time at Virginia for most wins in a career. Foley’s 23 career falls ranks him fifth all-time at Virginia for most falls in a career and his 13 falls this season is second to only Moore’s 34 for most falls in a single season at UVa. His 38 wins this season ties his mark of 38 totals wins in a single season from back in 2003, which stands fourth all-time at UVa for most wins in a single season.

Foley’s 49 career dual match wins is a new Virginia school-record for most dual match wins in a career and his 16 dual match wins this season is the fourth most in a single season at Virginia. Foley finished tied for fifth this season for most matches competed in for a single season with 45. He also holds the second place record himself with 48 from last season. Foley ranks second all-time for most matches competed in at UVa for a career with 149 and ranks fourth all-time for most dual matches competed in at Virginia in a career with 52. He already holds the school-record for most dual matches competed in for a single season with 19 in 2002, and also stands tied for fourth and 11th all-time at UVa in a single season with 17 and 16, respectively.

Prior to Nationals, Foley was named the ACC Wrestler of the Week. The 165-pounder won two of the five invitationals/tournaments he competed as has placed no lower than fourth in the other events. Foley won the Mat Jam ACC Wrestling Championships and the Virginia Intercollegiate State Wrestling Championships, took second place at the Mat Town USA Invitational, placed third at Cornell’s Body Bar Invitational and finished fourth at the Michigan State Open.
