INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The University of Virginia women’s rowing team’s first varsity eight is ranked eighth in the first USRowing/Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association NCAA Division I Varsity Eight Coaches Poll of the 2004 regular season. The Virginia crew was ranked seventh in the preseason poll.

Ohio State University is ranked first in the latest poll followed by the University of California-Berkeley and Princeton University. The rest of the Top 10 includes the University of Michigan, Harvard University, Brown University, Yale University, Virginia, Michigan State University and the University of Washington.

UVa’s first varsity eight defeated two of three crews ranked in the current Top 20 at the Windermere Collegiate Crew Classic in Redwood City, Calif., March 27-28. The Cavaliers defeated Washington State University (12th) and Stanford University (17th), but lost to California-Berkeley (2nd).

Earlier this season, Virginia defeated 18th-ranked Duke.

The UVa women’s rowing team’s next competition is on April 10 when the Cavaliers host Michigan and Ohio State at Lake Monticello.
