The Virginia track and field team won a pair of titles at today’s competition in Durham as David Sullivan set a new personal record in the pole vault, clearing 16′ 8.75″ to take first and move him to the #2 performer all-time at Virginia. Jorgensen also won today as the former ACC Champion and All-American won the javelin competition with a toss of 163′ 4″. Jason Young won the men’s 200m developmental race in a time of 21.67, just edging teammate Kellen Blassingame, who took third with a 21.87. Blassingame broke a 25-year old school record with his 400m time of 46.76, breaking the record of 46.94 set in 1979 by Jim Bruce.

Caroline Harvey placed in a couple events today, taking fourth in the 100m and eighth in the long jump with an 18′ 10.75″. She also set a season-best time in the 200m today as well, as did Erin Crawford in the 400m. Crawford also took sixth in the 400 intermediate hurdles with a 1:01.50. Rachel Marks and Meggie Schuelke both went 5′ 9.25″, setting season bests for 2004. Sharon O’Connor took sixth in the 1500 with a season-best 4:29.44.

Blassingame took home the bronze in both the 200 as well as the 400 with a 46.76. He also qualified for the NCAA East Regional Meet with his school record 400, as did Sullivan in the pole vault. Marks and Schuelke, who had previously qualified for the Regional Meet, improved their standing with today’s meet, while Jorgensen also qualified for the meet that will be held in Gainesville, Fla. on May 28-29. The regional meets are the second stage of qualifying for the national meet, which will take place in Austin, Texas from June 9-12.
