Virginia Finishes Seventh at ACC Championship

CLEMMONS, N.C. – The Virginia women’s golf team concluded its first ever ACC Championship on Sunday, shooting a 304 (+20) in the final round. The Cavaliers wound up in seventh place with a season low 915 (+63).
Defending national champion and No. 1 ranked Duke continued its dominance by shooting a 273 (-11) in the final round. The Blue Devils’ total score of 838 (-14) made for a runaway victory. No. 14 Wake Forest finished in second at 857 (+5), while No. 20 North Carolina took third at 861 (+9).
Duke’s Brittany Lang claimed individual medallist honors with a three-day score of 204 (-9). North Carolina players Meaghan Francella and Ashley Prange finished second and third, respectively, with scores of 206 (-7) and 207 (-6).
Freshman Leah Wigger (Louisville, Ky.) led the Cavaliers for the third day in a row. She shot a 71 (E) in the final round, which gave her a total of 217 (+4) and a tie for 11th place. Freshman Rachel Smith (Powell, Tenn.) shot a 77 (+6) to tie for 24th at 227 (+14). Freshman Lindsay Robinson (Huntington, W.V.) finished 30th after a 77 (+6) gave her a total of 232 (+19). Freshman Sally Shonk (Nobelsville, Ind.) came in with a 79 (+8) and a 33rd place finish at 241 (+28). Freshman Kira Mayo (Aventura, Fla.) finished in 34th place, after an 84 (+13) gave her a three-day total of 252 (+39).
The Cavaliers now look ahead to the NCAA Regionals May 6-8.
