‘HOOS UP NEXT?: Virginia (33-7, 14-4 ACC) is set to face the Virginia Tech Hokies (19-15, 6-7 Big East) on April 21st at Davenport Field at the UVa Baseball Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 PM.

LAST TIME THEY MET: Virginia defeated Virginia Tech by the score of 10-7 on April 23, 2003 in Salem, Va. The contest was played on a neutral field at Salem Memorial Baseball Stadium.

ON THE MOUND TONIGHT: Virginia is expected to start Chris Gale (RHP) against Virginia Tech tonight. Gale in 3-2 with a 5.23 ERA and has started six of the 10 games he has appeared in. He has struck out 19 batters and is holding opposing batters to a .317 batting average. Virginia Tech is expected to thrown Jeff Landing (RHP). Landing is 3-1 with a 2.45 ERA and has started all eight games he has appeared in. He has struck out 42 batters and is holding opposing batters to a .251 batting average.

VIRGINIA RECORDS SCHOOL-RECORD 13TH CONSECUTIVE VICTORY: With its 8-3 victory over Norfolk State on April 20th, Virginia recorded a school-record 13th consecutive victory, breaking the former school-record of 12 consecutive wins.

VIRGINIA LEADS THE ACC IN CONFERENCE & OVERALL OVERALL VICTORIES: Granted, every school plays a different schedule, but as of April 21st, Virginia has recorded an ACC-leading 33 overall victories and stands in first place in the conference with 14 ACC victories.

‘HOOS ARE STREAKIN’: With its 8-3 victory over Norfolk State on April 20th, Virginia is currently riding a school-record 13-game winning streak.

LAST LOSS NEARLY A MONTH AGO: Heading into its contest against Virginia Tech on April 21st, it has been nearly one month since Virginia lost a game. UVa’s last setback was on March 28 to N.C. State.

NOT BEATING THEMSELVES: In Virginia’s last 13 games, all UVa victories, the Cavaliers’ opponents have committed 23 errors to just seven for Virginia. In three games against Duke on April 2-4, the Blue Devils’ error total for the series was nine after making errors in game one (6), game two (1) and game three (2). In UVa’s victory over William & Mary on April 6th, the Tribe committed five errors. In other games during the stretch, in Virginia’s three-game sweep over Clemson (April 9-11), the Tigers committed three errors and in UVa’s two wins over Brown (March 30-31), the Bears committed two errors.

‘HOOS BY THE MONTH: Virginia finished the month of February with a record of 9-1 overall. UVa was 6-1 at home and 3-0 on the road for the month. Virginia then turned in a record of 13-6 in the month of March. The Cavaliers were 6-3 at home and 7-3 on the road for the month. Here is a look at UVa’s record by the month:

O’CONNOR-METER: First-year Virginia head baseball coach Brian O’Connor’s career coaching record stands at 33-7, 14-4 in the ACC.

BYPASSED IN STOLEN BASES: Virginia exceeded its 2003 season total of 58 stolen bases just 32 games into the 2004 season by recording 61 successful stolen bases following its three-game series with Duke. In 2003, UVa finished 58-for-89 in stolen base attempts. As of April 21st of this season, Virginia is 76-for-98 in stolen base attempts. The UVa school-record for most stolen bases in one season is 125 in 1990.

THIEVES ON THE BASE PATHS: Virginia has burned its opponents this season when it has runners on base. UVa is 76-for-98 in stolen base attempts, compared to just 15-for-26 for its opponents. The Cavaliers are averaging five stolen bases to every one for their opponent.

OVER & OUT: Virginia has hit 22 home runs this season, with 21 of those 22 home runs coming off of the bats of Joe Koshansky and Mark Reynolds. Koshansky has hit a team-leading 12 home runs and Reynolds has hit nine home runs. Matt Dunn, the only Cavalier other than Koshansky and Reynolds, has hit one home run and it was UVa’s first of the season in the Cavaliers’ season-opener on February 13th against North Carolina A&T in his first at-bat.

ROAD WARRIORS: Virginia’s record away from home this year stands at 17-3 on the road. UVa’s 17 road wins already exceeds its total for road victories in all of last season. In 2003, Virginia was 8-14 in road contests.

ON THE ROAD AGAIN: Virginia is currently in a stretch that will see the Cavaliers on the road for a three-game series in four of five consecutive weekends, which started with UVa’s three-game ACC series at N.C. State on March 26-28. Virginia also traveled to Durham, N.C. to play Duke on April 2-4 before it returned home for the Clemson series on April 9-11. UVa then hit the road for a weekend series to face Maryland on April 16-18 in Bowie, Md. before rounding things out with its trip to Coral Gables, Fla. to face Miami on April 23-25.

CAVALIERS RECORD FOURTH SWEEP OF AN ACC OPPONENT: After putting the finishing touches on a three-game sweep over ACC foe Maryland, the Cavaliers recorded their fourth ACC series sweep over a conference foe – a feat that has never been done before at Virginia. UVa has swept Georgia Tech, Duke, Clemson and Maryland this season, with the GT and Duke series sweep occurring on the road.

VIRGINIA SETS SCHOOL-RECORD FOR MOST ACC WINS EVER: On April 16th in Bowie, Md., Virginia defeated Maryland by the score of 5-3 to record a school-record 12 ACC wins. UVa’s 12th conference win broke the former school-record of 11 ACC victories posted by both 2003 and 1996 squads. Virginia currently has won 14 ACC games this season

UVA SURPASSES LAST YEAR’S WIN TOTAL: After its three-game sweep over Maryland on April 16-18, Virginia has already surpassed its win total from all of last season. UVa’s is currently 33-7 and the 2003 Cavaliers finished 29-24. Virginia’s 33 victories is more wins already than the last seven years for any UVa team total. The most wins ever for a Virginia team in baseball occurred in 1996 when the Cavaliers finished 44-21.

VIRGINIA IN THREE-GAME WEEKEND SERIES ACTION: Heading into its three-game series with Miami, Virginia is 23-4 and has won seven of its nine series in its nine, three-game weekend series this year. UVa has played against: North Carolina A&T (February 13-15), Seton Hall (February 27-29), Central Connecticut State (March 5-7), Georgia Tech (March 12-14), North Carolina (March 19-21), N.C.
