CHARLOTTESVILLE – The University of Virginia women’s rowing team travels to Princeton, N.J., to compete against Dartmouth, Pennsylvania and Princeton on Saturday (April 24). The regatta will be held on Lake Carnegie and is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m.

Virginia will compete in six events, racing its varsity eight, second varsity eight, varsity four, second varsity four, novice eight, and second novice eight boats.

The Cavaliers enter the competition after winning their fifth consecutive conference title last weekend (April 10) at the ACC Championships in Clemson, S.C. The team swept every race, winning the varsity four, novice eight, second varsity eight, and varsity eight competitions. The varsity eight crew was named 2004 ACC Crew of the Year. Four members of that boat — Betty Shumaker, Jennifer Reck, Lindsay Shoop, and Genevieve Cauchon-Voyer — were named to the 2004 All-ACC team. Head coach Kevin Sauer was named 2004 ACC Coach of the Year.

Virginia’s varsity eight boat is ranked sixth nationally in the latest Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association/USRowing poll. Of the schools competing in Saturday’s regatta, Princeton is the only other varsity eight crew ranked in the poll’s Top 20. Princeton is ranked third.
