CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – University of Virginia baseball player Joe Koshansky (Fairfax, Va./Chantilly) was named this week’s Atlantic Coast Conference Pitcher of the Week. Koshansky, a fourth-year 1B/LHP, started in all five of Virginia’s games last week including one start on the mound (Sunday, April 25th) as a pitcher. In that contest, Koshansky pitched a complete game to help lift #15 Virginia to a 4-3 victory over the #4 ranked Miami Hurricanes in Coral Gables, Florida at Mark Light Field. The LHP threw 9.0 innings and allowed just three runs on eight hits and struck out six batters to record his seventh win of the year.

The victory was Koshansky’s second consecutive victory as a pitcher against Miami, as he also picked up the win last season in UVa’s 17-2 victory over the Hurricanes on April 13th, 2003 in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Koshansky’s honor by the ACC this week is his third recognition this season by the conference. He was also twice named the ACC Player of the Week on February 16th and March 15th, and he became the fourth different UVa pitcher this season to be named the ACC Pitcher of the Week. Virginia’s trio of Casey Lambert (March 15th), Andrew Dobies (March 29th) and Matt Avery (April 12th) were also named the ACC Pitcher of the Week this season for the Cavaliers.

For the season, Koshansky is 7-1 with a 2.45 ERA. He has started all 11 games he has appeared on the mound and has pitched 77.0 innings with 62 strikeouts. He is holding opposing batters to a .214 batting average.
