CHARLOTTESVILLE – Jim Booz, the assistant athletics director for compliance at Vanderbilt University the last four years and a member of the athletics department staff at Vanderbilt since 1995, has been named associate athletics director for compliance at the University of Virginia.
Booz’ responsibilities at Virginia will include overseeing the day-to-day operations of the compliance office and assisting in the development, implementation and monitoring of a comprehensive compliance program.
“Compliance must be a priority for the University of Virginia, the athletics department and for each individual in the department,” said UVa Athletics Director Craig Littlepage. “Jim Booz is a proven leader and professional who will assist each member of the University community in strengthening the commitment to compliance. His background at Vanderbilt provides him with the experience and knowledge necessary to understand and carry out his responsibilities at Virginia.”
Booz joined the Vanderbilt athletics department as an academic counselor for student-athletes in October of 1995 and continued in that role until July of 1998 when he was named director of eligibility and summer programs. He continued as an academic counselor after assuming his new responsibilities. He was named assistant athletics director for compliance in 2000.
Booz is a 1995 graduate of the University of Tennessee at Martin with a bachelor’s degree in physical education and a concentration in sports management. He earned his master’s degree in education from Middle Tennessee State University in 1998.
“I am excited to be a part of the family at the University of Virginia,” Booz said. “It is important to me to be at a place and associated with people who value the same things I do. I have found that at the University of Virginia.
“I would like to thank Todd Turner for allowing me the opportunity to develop as an athletics administrator at Vanderbilt. My experience at Vanderbilt has prepared me for the new challenge I take on at Virginia.”
Booz assumes his responsibilities at Virginia on June 15.
