CHARLOTTESVILLE – Jon Oliver, senior associate director of athletics for administration at the University of Virginia, has taken his name out of consideration for the athletics director’s position at the University of South Florida.

“I appreciate the opportunity to talk with representatives of the University of South Florida about their athletics director’s position,” Oliver said. “The position is very attractive, but I have determined it’s best for me and my family to remain at the University of Virginia. A number of goals have been established for the Virginia athletics department and significant progress is being made toward meeting those goals. I want to continue to be a part of that progress.”

Oliver is in his third year as a member of the Virginia athletics department staff. His primary responsibility is oversight of the day-to-day operations of the athletics department. He is the administrative liaison for football and men’s basketball, and serves as the athletics department point person for the John Paul Jones Arena project.

Oliver is a member of UVa’s master planning council and serves on the NCAA’s Minority Opportunities and Interests Committee. He came to UVa after spending six years in various aspects of athletics administration at Washington State University.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in communications from Boise State University in 1994 and his law degree from the University of Idaho School of Law in 1997.
