‘HOOS UP NEXT?: Virginia (37-11, 15-6 ACC) is set to face the Wake Forest Demon Deacons (17-25, 4-14 ACC) in a three-game Atlantic Coast Conference series on May 13-15 at Davenport Field at the UVa Baseball Stadium. Virginia will face Wake Forest on Thursday, May 13th at 7:00 PM, Friday, May 14th at 7:00 PM and Saturday, May 15th at 2:00 PM.

LAST TIME THEY MET: Virginia defeated Wake Forest by the score of 12-11 in the 2003 ACC Tournament in Salem, Va. at the Salem Memorial Baseball Stadium on May 23, 2003. UVa went 3-1 against WFU last season after the Cavaliers also defeated the Demon Deacons two games to one in the ACC regular season series in Winston-Salem, N.C. on April 25-27. Virginia dropped a 2-1 decision to Wake Forest in game one (April 25th) before bouncing back to win games two and three by the scores of 13-2 and 6-4.

UVA’S PROBABLE PITCHING FOR VIRGINIA VS.WAKE FOREST: Virginia is expected to pitch its usual weekend rotation when the Cavaliers host Wake Forest in a three-game Atlantic Coast Conference series on May 13-15 at Davenport Field at the UVa Baseball Stadium. The Cavaliers are expected to go with Andrew Dobies (LHP, 6-2, 2.91 ERA, 82 K) on Thursday, Matt Avery (RHP, 5-2, 2.81 ERA, 42 K) on Friday and Joe Koshansky (LHP, 7-2, 2.69 ERA, 66 K) on Saturday. Wake Forest is expected to counter with Justin Keadle (RHP, 2-3, 5.45 ERA, 59 K) on Thursday, Kyle Young (RHP, 4-4, 5.67 ERA, 36 K) on Friday and Tim Morley (LHP, 3-6, 7.08 ERA, 27 K) on Saturday.

7,101 SPECTATORS TURN OUT FOR UVA/FSU SERIES: During Virginia’s three-game ACC series against Florida State on May 7-9, a total of 7,101 spectators turned out to watch the series. There was an announced crowd of 2,430 spectators on Friday and Saturday to go along with 2,241 spectators on Sunday.

COME ONE, COME ALL, AS ATTENDANCE RECORD FALLS: On May 7th and 8th in a pair of ACC games against the Florida State Seminoles, Virginia set a new facility single-game attendance record at Davenport Field at the UVa Baseball Stadium when 2,430 spectators turned out to watch the Cavaliers play on both nights. The record crowd turnout topped the former facility record of 2,000 set on April 9th and April 21st when Virginia defeated Clemson (5-1) and Virginia Tech (21-10), respectively. The facility attendance record prior to this season was 1,955 for a game against Miami (Fla.) on April 12, 2003.

VIRGINIA LEADS THE ACC IN CONFERENCE & OVERALL OVERALL VICTORIES: Granted, every school plays a different schedule, but as of May 13th, Virginia has recorded an ACC-leading 37 overall victories and stands in first place in the conference with 15 ACC victories.

VIRGINIA HAS SIGHTS SET ON SCHOOL-RECORD WIN TOTAL: Heading into its three-game series with Wake Forest on May 13-15, Virginia stands 37-11 overall. Virginia’s 37 victories this season is more wins for a single season than any UVa team has posted since 1996 when the Cavaliers won 44 games. The 1996 squad’s record of 44-21 marked the most wins ever for a Virginia team in baseball team.

THIEVES ON THE BASE PATHS: Virginia has burned its opponents this season when it has runners on base. UVa is 82-for-108 in stolen base attempts, compared to just 24-for-41 for its opponents. The Cavaliers are averaging over three stolen bases to every one for their opponent.

‘HOOS BY THE MONTH: Virginia finished the month of February with a record of 9-1 overall. UVa was 6-1 at home and 3-0 on the road for the month. Virginia then turned in a record of 13-6 in the month of March. The Cavaliers were 6-3 at home and 7-3 on the road for the month. In April, Virginia went 14-2 record overall after going 6-0 at home and 8-2 on the road. Here is a look at UVa’s record by the month:

VIRGINIA IN THREE-GAME WEEKEND SERIES ACTION: Virginia is 25-8 and has won seven of its 11 series in its 11, three-game weekend series this year. UVa has played against: North Carolina A&T (February 13-15), Seton Hall (February 27-29), Central Connecticut State (March 5-7), Georgia Tech (March 12-14), North Carolina (March 19-21), N.C. State (March 26-28), Duke (April 2-4), Clemson (April 9-10), Maryland (April 16-18), Miami (April 23-25) and Florida State (May 7-9). 100-PLUS CLUB: Virginia has outscored its opponents by more than 100 runs this season, holding a 350-213 advantage in runs scored.

CARDIAC CAVALIERS HAVE CLAIMED 14 COMEBACK/PULL-OUT VICTORIES THIS SEASON: The University of Virginia baseball team is enjoying one of its best seasons ever in the history of the program. The Cavaliers have played a total of 48 games, with 37 of those 48 contests resulting in a UVa victory. Of those 37 victories, 14 of the wins were either recorded with a late inning comeback or by breaking a tie ball game late in the contest. Virginia has won nine games by comeback and five more games by pulling out a tie contest in either the eighth, ninth or extra innings. UVa has also won 10 of the 12 one-run games it has played in this season.

Joe Koshansky NAMED ACC PITCHER OF THE WEEK: Virginia baseball player Joe Koshansky was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Pitcher of the Week for the week of April 26th. Koshansky, a fourth-year LHP, started on the mound (Sunday, April 25th) and pitched a complete game to help lift #15 Virginia to a 4-3 victory over the #4 ranked Miami Hurricanes in Coral Gables, Florida at Mark Light Field. Koshansky threw 9.0 innings and allowed just three runs on eight hits and struck out six batters to record his seventh win of the year. The victory was Koshansky’s second consecutive victory as a pitcher against Miami, as he also picked up the win last season in UVa’s 17-2 victory over the Hurricanes on April 13th, 2003 in Charlottesville, Virginia. Koshansky’s honor by the ACC this week is his third recognition this season by the conference. He was also twice named the ACC Player of the Week on February 16th and March 15th, and he became the fourth different UVa pitcher this season to be named the ACC Pitcher of the Week. Virginia’s trio of Casey Lambert (March 15th), Andrew Dobies (March 29th) and Matt Avery (April 12th) were also named the ACC Pitcher of the Week this season for the Cavaliers.

ROAD WARRIORS: Virginia’s record away from home this year stands at 18-5 on the road. UVa’s 18 road wins this season nearly matches its total for road games played in all of last season. In 2003, Virginia was 8-14 in 22 road contests.

CAVALIERS SET SCHOOL RECORD FOR MOST CONSECUTIVE WINS AT 14: With its 21-10 victory over Virginia Tech on April 21st, Virginia established a school-record 14-game winning streak.

UVA BREAKS FORMER SCHOOL-RECORD FOLLOWING 13TH CONSECUTIVE VICTORY: With its 8-3 victory over Norfolk State on April 20th, Virginia recorded a school-record 13th consecutive victory, breaking the former school-record of 12 consecutive wins.

CAVALIERS DIDN’T BEATING THEMSELVES DURING 14-GAME WINNING STREAK: During Virginia’s 14-game winning streak from March 30th-April 21st, UVa’s opponents committed 25 errors to just eight for Virginia through the 14-game stretch. In three games against Duke on April 2-4, the Blue Devils’ error total for the series was nine after making errors in game one (6), game two (1) and game three (2). In UVa’s victory over William & Mary on April 6th, the Tribe committed five errors. In other games during the stretch, in Virginia’s three-game sweep over Clemson (April 9-11), the Tigers committed three errors and in UVa’s two wins over Brown (March 30-31), the Bears committed two errors.

BYPASSED IN STOLEN BASES: Virginia exceeded its 2003 season total of 58 stolen bases just 32 games into the 2004 season by recording 61 successful stolen bases following its three-game series with Duke. In 2003, UVa finished 58-for-89 in stolen base attempts. As of May 13th of this season, Virginia is 82-for-108 in stolen base attempts. The UVa school-record for most stolen bases in one season is 125 in 1990.

OVER & OUT: Virginia has hit 25 home runs this season, with 22 of those 25 home runs coming off of the bats of Joe Koshansky and Mark Reynolds. Koshansky has hit a team-leading 13 home runs and Reynolds has hit nine home runs. Matt Dunn, Matt Street and Scott Headd are the only other Cavaliers other than Koshansky and Reynolds to hit a home run. Dunn hit UVa’s first HR of the season in the Cavaliers’ season-opener on February 13th against North Carolina A&T in his first at-bat, Street blasted a grand slam in Virginia’s 21-10 victory over Virginia Tech on April 21st and Headd connected on his first collegiate home run in a 15-2 victory over Florida State on May 8th.
