2004-05 Schedule

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – University of Virginia wrestling head coach Lenny Bernstein has announced the 2004-05 UVa wrestling schedule. Virginia’s 2004-05 schedule features five home event dates including two Atlantic Coast Conference dual matches, one non-conference dual match, one exhibition match and the Cavaliers will again host the Virginia Intercollegiates. The Cavaliers have a minimum of 16 dual match events on tap as well as six invitationals and/or tournaments on the schedule for next season.

Prior to the start of the regular season portion of its 2004-05 schedule, Virginia will host the annual Blue-Orange Exhibition on November 7th at Memorial Gymnasium. The Blue-Orange Exhibition is an intrasquad scrimmage between select members of the team which are divided into two squads, the Blue Team and the Orange Team.

Virginia will kick-off its 2004-05 regular season by competing in the Edinboro Quad Meet on November 13th at Edinboro University in Edinboro, Pa. UVa will take on Appalachian State, Findlay and host Edinboro in three consecutive dual matches on the afternoon. The Cavaliers will then travel to Ithaca, N.Y. to compete in Cornell’s Body Bar Invitational one week later on November 20th.

Virginia will begin the month of December by traveling to Las Vegas, Nevada to compete in the prestigious Las Vegas Invitational on December 3-4 before returning to the Commonwealth for a stop in Blacksburg, Va. to face ACC-newcomer Virginia Tech in a dual match on December 10th.

The Cavaliers will then compete in a pair of split-competitions later in the month on December 29-30. Several members of UVa will travel to Evanston, Illinois to take part in the showcase competition of the Midlands Invitational at Northwestern University (Dec. 29-30), while the rest of the team will travel to Greensboro, N.C. to compete in UNC-Greensboro’s Southern Scuffle (Dec. 29-30).

UVa will ring in the new year with a dual match showdown against VMI on January 6th when the Cavaliers and Keydets compete for the third consecutive year in the “Rumble on the River” in Richmond, Va. at St. Christopher’s School.

For the second time in four years, UVa will host the Virginia Intercollegiate State Wrestling Championship. The event will take place on January 8th in Charlottesville. The Cavaliers will then travel to Hampton, Va. on January 14-15 to compete in the Virginia Duals before returning to single dual match action to close out the regular season. Following the Virginia Duals, UVa will compete in nine consecutive dual matches beginning with an ACC match against North Carolina on January 21st in Chapel Hill, N.C.

Virginia will then travel to Ohio and face three non-conference opponents in the “Buckeye State.” The Cavaliers will first venture to Kent, Ohio to take on Kent State on January 29th before traveling to Columbus, Ohio for a pair of dual matches on January 30th against Big Ten members Ohio State and Indiana on the campus of Ohio State University.

Virginia will return to Charlottesville to host three consecutive home dual matches from February 5-18. The Cavaliers will host Lehigh on February 5th before closing out the home portion of its regular season schedule with a pair of ACC dual matches against N.C. State on February 11th and Duke on February 18th. UVa will then close out its regular season on February 19th by facing conference-rival Maryland in College Park, Md. in the Cavaliers’ ACC finale before meeting American later that evening across town in Washington, DC.

Virginia will return to Greensboro, N.C. and to UNCG for the ACC Championships on March 5th. Following the ACC Tournament, select Cavaliers will travel to Saint Louis, Missouri to compete in the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships at the Savvis Center.
