Memorial Service Scheduled For Doyle Smith

CHARLOTTESVILLE – A memorial service for E. Doyle Smith, Jr., is scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 1, at Alumni Hall at the University of Virginia. Smith, a member of the UVa athletics media relations office staff for 31 years before his retirement in 1999 and a long-time lacrosse publicist, died on June 1 at the age of 60.

The service is scheduled for 2:00-5:00 p.m. Individuals are requested to send in or bring written anecdotes about Doyle. Anecdotes can be e-mailed to Doyle’s sisters, Laurie Filstrup (lyfilstrup@yahoo.com) and Debby Cunningham (Dcunnin46@aol.com), or mailed to Rich Murray, Athletics Media Relations Office, P.O. Box 400853, Charlottesville, VA, 22904-4853. There will be an opportunity for individuals to tell stories or say a few words about Doyle during the service.
