Virginia Volleyball Falls To Miami 3-0

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Miami hit an impressive .422 as a team with just six hitting errors in posting a 3-0 (30-16, 30-28, 30-16) victory over the University of Virginia volleyball team Sunday afternoon (November 7) at Knight Sports Complex. With the loss, UVa falls to 17-9 overall and 7-7 in the Atlantic Coast Conference, while the Hurricanes improve to 14-8 overall and 9-5 in the conference.
Second-year outside hitter Lindsay Osco (Houston, Texas/Elkins) paced the Cavaliers with her team-best 15th double-double of the season. Osco recorded team highs of 13 kills and 10 digs. First-year middle Katie Oakes (Lorton, Va./Evangel Christian School) hit .571 with nine kills, while first-year outside hitter Sarah Kirkwood (Tampa, Fla./Plant) and fourth-year middle Alexis Geocaris (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) both tallied eight kills.
Karla Johnson paced Miami with 17 kills and a .486 hitting percentage. Elizabeth Tyson hit .417 with 12 kills, while Francheska Savage posted a .412 hitting percentage with nine kills. Savage also recorded five blocks, including three solo stops. Setter Jill Robinson handed out 41 assists, while Ciara Michel led the Hurricanes with seven blocks. Jamie Grass paced all players with 18 digs.
Miami had 52 kills with just six errors in 109 attempts for its .422 hitting percentage. The Cavaliers managed to hit only .131 with 42 kills. The Hurricanes also held a 13-1 advantage in team blocks and a 49-43 margin in digs.
Virginia returns to action on Friday (November 12) when it hosts Clemson on Senior Night at 7:00 p.m. in Memorial Gym. Admission is free of charge.
