Virginia’s Emily Harrison was the first rookie across the tape, earning All-Regional honors along with teammate Shannon Hawrylo as the Cavaliers took fifth place at the NCAA Southeast Regional meet on Saturday (Nov. 13). Three men also earned All-Regional honors as Soeren Lindner and Will Christian both finished in the top-10 and Ryan Foster ran third for the Cavaliers, taking 17th overall as the men finished fourth as a team.

Harrison’s run of 20:32.8 capped a solid rookie campaign as she has been the top runner for the Cavaliers all-season, adding All-Regional honors to an All-Conference performance two weeks ago. Teammate Shannon Hawrylo also earned regional honors, finishing 25th in a time of 21:03.5. She finished just ahead of Cheryl Carr, who ran 21:10.4 and took 29th. Three Cavaliers, Jen Beury, Angie Saterstad, and Sara Ensrud, finished as a strong pack, separated by 15 seconds to help the Cavaliers to a top-five finish in the region.

Lindner and Christian both finished in the top-10 with Lindner in ninth at 30:23.4 and Christian in tenth at 30:25.4. Ryan Foster finished 17th for his first All-Regional honor, running 30:46.7. Four Cavaliers came across the line separated by only 12 seconds as Dave Vitto led a pack with his 31:38.7.

Both teams are awaiting an at-large bid to the NCAA Championships, which will take place at the Wabash Family Sports Center in Terre Haute, Indiana on Monday, November 22. Bids will be announced by the NCAA on Sunday, Nov. 14 at 8:00 pm.
