Virginia field hockey athletes Mia Link and Katie Jo Gerfen have both been named to the National Field Hockey Coaches’ Association (NFHCA) All-South Regional Team. For Link, who led the Cavaliers in scoring in 2004, this is her first selection to the regional squads while Gerfen makes her second consecutive appearance and third overall on the South Regional teams.

Link led Virginia with 15 goals and five assists for 35 points, including a 10-point outburst against Bucknell in the opening game of the year. Link’s four goals and two assists are the second-highest point total for a single game in Virginia hockey history. She added a hat trick against Longwood, becoming only the tenth person in Virginia history to record two or more hat tricks in a season. She also finished the year ranked sixth all-time in points as a second year and fifth in goals scored as a second year. Link was featured in the September 20, 2004 edition of Sports Illustrated’s “Faces in the Crowd” section. Link also earned All-ACC honors in 2004.

Gerfen started every game for the Cavaliers in 2004, just as she has done in her previous three years. She concluded her career with 16 goals and 17 assists, earning All-South Regional honors in her last three years. Gerfen was named an All-American by both the NFHCA and womensfieldhockey.com in 2003.
