CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Virginia men’s tennis team has accepted an invitation to compete at the 2005 USTA/ITA National Team Indoor Championships. The tournament runs February 17-20 at the Mid-Town Tennis Club in Chicago.

The Cavaliers are making their first appearance in the prestigious tournament that annually features the top teams in the country. This year, the 16-team field features 13 of the top 14 teams in last season’s final ITA rankings, including each of last year’s top ten.

First held in the 1973, the tournament is the ITA’s longest running event. Nine times the winner of the National Team Indoor Championship has gone on to win the NCAA Championship later that year.

“We are excited to play at National Indoors this season,” states Virginia head coach Brian Boland. “This tournament is annually one of the most competitive events all year and is a great opportunity for us to play some of the nation’s top teams early in the season.”

The tournament seedings will be determined at a later time, but the field consists of: Baylor, Duke, Florida, Georgia, Harvard, Illinois, Kentucky, LSU, Mississippi, Ohio State, Oklahoma State, Southern California, Stanford, UCLA, Virginia, and a school from the Mountain Region to be determined.
