Charlottesville, Va. – Al Golden, Defensive Coordinator at the University of Virginia, issued this statement Friday morning:

“After a week of baseless speculation, I feel it is necessary to firmly state my commitment to being the Defensive Coordinator at Virginia. We have made great strides in a short time and I believe we are building something special. We came up a little short of our goal of a championship, but I am dedicated to help us finish with nine wins and a third straight bowl win. We have a great nucleus returning for 2005 that includes some players who have also made a similar commitment to be at Virginia, and I want to help them finish their careers on a high note.”

Head Coach Al Groh remarked, “Al has done a marvelous job of molding our defensive players and systems. Finishing 11th in the country in scoring defense is evidence of that. He is a tremendous resource for us with a very bright future. I have high regard for his work and am thrilled by his enthusiasm for and confidence in the future of Virginia football.”
