GREENSBORO, N.C. – University of Virginia men’s basketball players Elton Brown and Sean Singletary have been honored by the Atlantic Coast Conference for their play in the Cavaliers’ 79-77 overtime victory over Loyola Marymount University on December 23. Brown was named the ACC men’s basketball Player of the Week and Singletary was named the conference’s men’s basketball Rookie of the Week. It is the third time this season Singletary has been honored as the ACC Rookie of the Week.

Brown, a 6-9 senior center from Newport News, Va., scored 25 points and grabbed eight rebounds in UVa’s victory over Loyola Marymount. He shot 50 percent (8-16) from the field and 81.8 percent (9-11) from the free throw line in the game. Brown scored the final four points in regulation as Virginia rallied to tie the game. His two free throws with 50 seconds left in regulation tied the game at 67. He also scored Virginia’s first four points in overtime before fouling out with 1:46 left in the overtime period.

Singletary, a 6-0 freshman point guard from Philadelphia, Pa., scored 12 points and had four rebounds in the victory over Loyola Marymount. He shot 57.1 percent (4-7) from the field, including 2-3 from three-point range, and made two of four free throw attempts. He also had two steals and one assist in the game. A three-pointer by Singletary with 2:59 left in regulation pulled the Cavaliers within 65-63. He hit another three-pointer with 2:34 left in overtime to give Virginia a 74-72 lead and then made two free throws with 2:02 remaining to increase the lead to 76-72.
