Virginia Falls at No. 25 NC State, 62-56

Raleigh, N.C. The University of Virginia women’s basketball team gave up a 16-point second half lead to fall at No. 25 NC State on Thursday.
UVa stands 16-6 overall and 5-3 in ACC play. While the wolfpack improved to 16-5 overall and 5-3 in the league.
“I didn’t feel we were playing to our ability to start the game,” said head coach Debbie Ryan “We came out very well to open the second half and push the lead.”
In the first half Virginia dominated as NC State only took the lead once, 12-10. Virginia held the Wolfpack scoreless for five minutes while going on a 8-0 run. UVa held a 10-point lead at the break, 26-16, lead by back-to-back three pointers by seniors LaTonya Blue and Brandi Teamer.
In the second half the Cavaliers pushed their lead to 16 points, 38-22 with 15:30 on the clock. During the last five minutes of play NC State went on a 17-6 run o retake the lead in the last minute of play for the win.
“We still had several chances to put the game away, and we just couldn’t do it. That’s uncharacteristic of this team.”
LaTonya Blue Finished with 14 points while senior Kate Kreager came off the bench for 12 points. Freshmen Takisha Granberry grabbed a career high 10 rebounds.
Billie McDowell lead State with 17 points.
“We made fundamental mistakes at the end,” said Blue “we let this one slip away.”
UVa out rebounded the wolfpack 44-36
