Cavalier Women's Tennis Falls to Penn 4-3

CHARLOTTESVILLE – The No. 51 ranked Virginia women’s tennis team suffered a 4-3 loss to No. 49 Penn Saturday night at the Boar’s Head Sports Club. The loss drops the Cavaliers’ record to 2-2 on the season.
Virginia took the lead early by taking the doubles point. The No. 23 ranked Cavalier team of Diana Srebrovic (Oakville, Ont.) and Douglas Wink (Greensboro, N.C.) cruised to an 8-0 win at No. 1 doubles before Kristen James (Clifton, Va.) and Lori Stern (Ojai, Calif.) clinched the point with their win at No. 2 doubles.
In singles, Penn tied the match at 1-1 with a win at No. 2 before Virginia retook the lead when No. 67 Srebrovic won a battle of ranked players at No. 1, topping No. 84 Julia Koulbitskaya 5-7, 6-0, 6-1. After the Quakers tied the match again at 2-2, the Cavaliers took the lead once more when James posted a straight set win at No. 3. Penn then took the last two matches to finish to capture the 4-3 win.
The Cavaliers will return to action on Friday, February 18 as they travel to No. 64 Marshall.
