Virginia Stands Fourth at Papa John's Collegiate

MIAMI, Fla. – The Virginia women’s golf team stands fourth after the first round of the Papa John’s Collegiate on Sunday. The Cavaliers shot a 301 (+13) in their first action of the spring.
East Carolina and host Miami lead the field of 12 teams with a 296 (+8) each. UNC Wilmington is third with a 299 (+11), followed by Virginia. South Florida is fifth with a 305 (+16).
Miami’s Hagen Weintraub and East Carolina’s Emelie Lind are tied for first with a two-under 70 each. They are the only players to shoot under par on the day. Four players are tied for third with a 73 (+1) each.
Sophomores Sally Shonk (Noblesville, Ind.) and Lindsay Robinson (Huntington, W.V.) paced the Cavaliers with a 74 (+2) each to tie for seventh overall. Sophomore Rachel Smith (Powell, Tenn.) is tied for 18th with a 76 (+4), while sophomore Leah Wigger (Louisville, Ky.) follows by one stroke with a 77 (+5). Freshman Lauren Mielbrecht (Gulf Stream, Va.) rounds out the scoring with a 79 (+7).
Second round action at the Papa John’s Collegiate tees off on Monday, Feb. 21.
