Virginia Finishes 12th at Lady Gator Invitational

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Virginia women’s golf team moved up four spots to finish tied for 12th at the SunTrust Lady Gator Invitational on Sunday.
Wake Forest captured the team title from the field of 18 with a 883 (+32). Auburn was second with a 902 (+62), while Duke followed by a stroke to finish third with a 903 (+63). The Cavaliers shot their best round- a 312- to tie Florida State for 12th with a 945 (+105) total.
Purdue’s Myrte Eikenaar took home medalist honors after shooting an even 70 on the day for a 215 (+5) total. Wake Forest’s Ashley Hoagland also shot an even 70 in the final round to follow by one stroke with a 216 (+6). Ohio State’s Kristen White finished third with a 219 (+9).
Sophomore Leah Wigger (Louisville, Ky.) tied for 22nd with a 231 (+21). Sophomore Rachel Smith (Powell, Tenn.), who shot a team-low 74 (+4) on the day, finished with a 235 (+25). Sophomore Lindsay Robinson (Huntington, W.V.) followed with a 240 (+30), while freshman Lauren Mielbrecht (Gulf Stream, Va.) shot a 242 (+32). Sophomore Sally Shonk (Noblesville, Ind.) rounded out the Cavaliers’ scoring with a 248 (+38).
Virginia returns to action on March 11-13 at the Lady Gamecock Classic in Columbia, S.C.
