TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Virginia senior Kevin O’Connell (Potomac, Md.) fired a three-under 69 to tie for first after the opening round at the Seminole Intercollegiate late Sunday.

Coastal Carolina leads the field of 12 teams with a 291 (+3). Texas A&M and NC State are tied for second with a 294 (+6) each. Virginia is tied with Vanderbilt for sixth place with a 296 (+8) overall.

East Tennessee States’ Ryhs Davies is tied with O’Connell with a 69 (-3). Coastal Carolina’s Moises Cobo is third with a two-under 70. Four players, including UVa junior Brad Tilley (Chappaqua, N.Y.), are tied for fourth with a one-under 71 each.

Rounding out the Virginia scoring are junior Carter Henderson (Nashville, Tenn.) and sophomore Daniel McGurk (Woodlands, Texas), who fired a 78 (+6) apiece. Sophomore Mark Perry (Atlanta, Ga.) finished with an 82 (+10). Playing as an individual, sophomore Dan Gabel (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) also shot an 82 (+10) in the opening round.

Play at the Seminole Intercollegiate continues on Monday, March 7 and Tuesday, March 8 at the par 72 Golden Eagle Country Club.
