HONOLULU – The University of Virginia softball team was rained out again in Hawaii on Saturday (March 12), this time canceling bracket play of the Hawaiian Airlines Spring Fling Tournament. The Cavaliers finish the tournament in fifth place with a 1-3 record and were 1-4 on their spring break trip to Honolulu.

UVa was supposed to begin bracket play of the tournament Saturday morning against Nevada, but persistent rain forced cancellation of the remainder of the tournament. The Cavaliers were coming off a 4-1 win over Hawaii Friday evening. Virginia also had the second game of its doubleheader against the Rainbow Wahine canceled on Tuesday (March 8) night due to rain.

Virginia (6-14) returns to action Friday through Sunday, March 18-20 when it opens the home portion of its season by hosting the Hoo’s Who Tournament at The Park in Charlottesville. Bowling Green, East Carolina, Rutgers and Toledo will also participate in the three-day tournament. The Cavaliers play Bowling Green and East Carolina on Friday (March 18) at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m., respectively.
