Virginia Finishes Second at Birkdale Classic

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C.- – The Virginia men’s golf team shot a two-under 286 to finish second at the Birkdale Collegiate Classic on Sunday, marking its best finish this season to date.
UNC Charlotte captured the team title from the field of 15 teams with a 12-under 852. The Cavaliers followed with a 876 (+12), while Richmond took third with a 883 (+19).
UNC Charlotte’s Andrew Dibetetto took home medalist honors with a nine-under 207, while teammate Matt Mincer and UNC Greensboro’s Jake Lowder tied for second with a four-under 212 each.
Senior Kevin O’Connell (Potomac, Md.) captured sixth place with an even 216 after firing a three-under 69 in the final round. Junior Carter Henderson (Nashville, Tenn.) tied for eighth with a 220 (+4), while sophomore Daniel McGurk (Woodlands, Texas) tied for 14th with a 222 (+6). Junior Brad Tilley (Chappaqua, N.Y.) also carded a three-under 69 in the final round to finish 17th with a 223 (+7). Sophomore Mark Perry (Atlanta, Ga.) finished with a 233 (+17). Playing as an individual, sophomore Dan Gabel (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) tied for 24th with a 227 (+11).
Virginia will participate in the Morris Williams Intercollegiate on April 4-5 in Austin, Texas.
