Former Virginia Wrestling Coach Inducted Into Pennsylvania Wrestling Coaches Hall Of Fame

HERSHEY, Pa. – George Edwards, the head wrestling coach at the University of Virginia for 25 years (1969-1993), was recently inducted into the Pennsylvania Wrestling Coaches Hall of Fame.
Edwards is from Shamokin, Pa. He had an outstanding career as a high school wrestler and went on to a fine collegiate career at Penn State. He graduated from Penn State in 1964 and was an assistant coach for the Nittany Lions for four years before becoming the head wrestling coach at Virginia.
Edwards’ Virginia teams compiled an overall record of 158-133-1 and won three Atlantic Coast Conference championships. His first ACC championship team in 1974 stopped a 20-year run by the University of Maryland as conference wrestling champion.
