Virginia Moves Up to Ninth at Bryan National Collegiate

BROWNS SUMMIT, N.C. – The Virginia women’s golf team moved up into a tie for ninth place after the rain-delayed second round of Bryan National Collegiate on Saturday.
Top-ranked Duke continues to lead the field of 17 teams with a 577 (+1). Tenth-ranked Tennessee, which fired a round low of 293 along with Duke, bolted from fourth place into second with a 584 (+8). Fourth-ranked Georgia stands third with a 589 (+13), while No. 15 Florida is fourth with a 595 (+19). The Cavaliers are tied with Oklahoma State with a 615 (+39) each.
Tennessee’s Violeta Retamoza carded a one-under 71 to take over the lead with a three-under 141. Georgia’s Natalia Nicholls and Duke’s Jennifer Pandolfi are tied for second with a two-under 142 apiece.
Sophomore Leah Wigger (Louisville, Ky.) continues to lead UVa, tying for 22nd with a 150 (+6). Sophomore Rachel Smith (Powell, Tenn.) follows by three strokes with a 153 (+9), while sophomore Sally Shonk (Noblesville, Ind.) shot a 154 (+10). Freshman Lauren Mielbrecht (Gulf Stream, Va.) carded a 158 (+14), and sophomore Lindsay Robinson (Huntington, W.V.) rounded out the Cavalier scoring with a 163 (+19).
Final round action at the Bryan National Collegiate is scheduled to start on Sunday, April 3 at 8:30 a.m. (weather permitting).
