BROWNS SUMMIT, N.C. – The Virginia women’s golf team finished eighth at the Bryan National Collegiate on Sunday.

Top-ranked Duke captured its fifth consecutive Bryan National team title from the field of 17 teams with a 883 (+19), 10 strokes better than its closest competitor. Tenth-ranked Tennessee took second with a 893 (+29). Fourth-ranked Georgia was third with a 903 (+39), while No. 15 Florida was fourth with a 908 (+44). The Cavaliers shot a 310 in the final round for a 925 (+61) 54-hole total.

Duke’s Brittany Lang claimed medalist honors with an even 216, the only member of the field to finish even for the weather-beaten weekend. Tennessee’s Golda Johansson followed with a 218 (+2), while Duke’s Jennifer Pandolfi and Tennessee’s Violeta Retamoza tied for third with a 219 (+3) each.

Sophomore Leah Wigger (Louisville, Ky.) led UVa with a 226 (+10) to finish 13th overall. Sophomore Rachel Smith (Powell, Tenn.) finished with a 232 (+16) to tie for 28th, while sophomore Sally Shonk (Noblesville, Ind.) tied for 35th with a 234 (+18). Sophomore Lindsay Robinson (Huntington, W.V.), who shot the team’s best round of the day with a 75, carded with a 238 (+22). Freshman Lauren Mielbrecht (Gulf Stream, Va.) rounded out the Cavalier scoring with a 249 (+34).

The Cavaliers open post-season play at their second ACC Championship on April 15-17 in Charlotte, N.C.
