GREENSBORO, N.C. – University of Virginia third-year All-American third baseman Sara Larquier (Burbank, Calif./John Burroughs) has been selected as the Atlantic Coast Conference Softball Player of the Week for the week as announced April 4. It marks the first time Larquier has garnered the ACC’s weekly award and it is also the first time the honor has been bestowed on a UVa player since April of 2002 when Kristen Dennis earned the award for the 10th time of her career.

Larquier, a third-team All-American in 2004, helped lead the Cavaliers to two victories last week, including a 6-4 win over 19th-ranked Georgia Tech. She was 6-12 for a .500 batting average in four games last week. Among her six hits were two doubles and a triple.

In UVa’s 1-0 win over James Madison (Mar. 30), Larquier drove in the lone run of the game with a double to right center in the sixth inning. In two games against James Madison, Larquier was 3-6 (.500 batting average). She also drove in the game-winning run with a triple down the right field line in the Cavaliers’ 6-4 win over 19th-ranked Georgia Tech (Apr. 3) and scored UVa’s sixth run of the game on a wild pitch after hitting the triple. Larquier was 3-6 in two games against the Yellow Jackets, including a double and the triple.

Larquier, a two-time All-ACC selection, is hitting a team-best .339 (38-112) on the season with nine doubles, three triples and four home runs. She has driven in a team-high 26 runs and possesses a .580 slugging percentage while starting all 35 games.

The Cavaliers (14-21, 3-2 ACC) return to action this weekend when they play a three-game series against Atlantic Coast Conference rival Maryland at The Park. A doubleheader will be played on Saturday (April 9) at noon. The third game of the series will be at noon on Sunday (April 10).
