HOLLY SPRINGS, N.C. – The Virginia men’s golf team stands fourth after the first round of play at the Courtyard by Marriott Intercollegiate on Friday.

The field of 15 teams played through scattered thunderstorms all day. Three holes into the second round, all play was stop for 45 minutes due to lightning. Later, lightning ended play for the day 14 holes into the second round. Action will continue on Saturday, April 9 at 10 a.m. Third round action has been cancelled.

Eighteenth-ranked Georgia Southern fired a 13-under 273 to open tourney play. Ninth-ranked Wake Forest is second with a nine-under 279, while No. 11 Duke is third with an eight-under 280. The Cavaliers shot a seven-under 281 on the day, its lowest round of the season.

Georgia Southern’s Aron Price carded a tourney low eight-under 64. Virginia junior Brad Tilley (Chappaqua, N.Y.) followed by one stroke with a career-low 65 (-7). Three players tied for third with a four-under 68 each.

Senior Kevin O’Connell (Potomac, Md.) and junior Carter Henderson (Nashville, Tenn.) are tied for 22nd with a one-under 71 apiece. Sophomore Daniel McGurk (Woodlands, Texas) shot a 74 (+4), while freshman Greg Carlin (Kensington, Md.) shot a 76 (+4).
