HOLLY SPRINGS, N.C.- – The Virginia men’s golf team finished fifth in the rain-shortened Courtyard by Marriott Intercollegiate on Saturday.

The No. 11 Duke Blue Devils jumped from third place to the team title with an eight-under 280 on the day for a 16-under 560. Ninth-ranked Wake Forest and No. 18 Georgia Southern tied for second by one stroke with a 15-under 561 each. NC State took fourth with a nine-under 167. The Cavaliers finished with a seven-under 569, marking their lowest score of the season.

Georgia Southern’s Aron Price carded a 14-under 130 to capture medalist honors. NC State’s Taylor Crosby and Duke’s Michael Schachner tied for second with a 136 (-8) apiece.

Junior Brad Tilley (Chappaqua, N.Y.) paced three UVa golfers with an under-par finish, tying for eighth with a 140 (-4). Senior Kevin O’Connell (Potomac, Md.) and junior Carter Henderson (Nashville, Tenn.) tied for 17th with a two-under 142 each. Freshman Greg Carlin (Kensington, Md.) shot a 147 (+3), and sophomore Daniel McGurk (Woodlands, Texas) rounded out the Cavalier scoring with a 151 (+7).

Virginia will travel to the 2005 ACC Championship on April 15-17 at the Old North State Club in New London, N.C.
