CHARLOTTESVILLE – The No. 72 ranked Virginia women’s tennis team suffered a 6-1 loss Wednesday afternoon to No. 46 Maryland at the Snyder Tennis Center. The loss drops the Cavaliers’ record to 5-13 on the season, 1-7 in the ACC. The Terrapins improve to 9-10 (3-5 ACC) on the season.

The Terrapins took the early lead by winning at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles for a 1-0 lead. The Cavalier doubles team of Rachel DelPriore (Williamsville, N.Y.) and Douglas Wink (Greensboro, N.C.) recorded a win at No. 1 doubles for the Cavaliers, defeating Marianne Baker and Julia Graca 8-6.

In singles, Maryland took five of the six matches to capture the dual match win. The Cavaliers got a win at No. 3 singles, where DelPriore defeated Jennifer Dent in a third-set superbreaker.

The Cavaliers return to action on Saturday, April 16 when they host Wake Forest. The match will begin at 10:00 a.m. at the Snyder Tennis Center.
