Jan Mann Elected to NGCA Board of Directors

CHICAGO, Ill. – University of Virginia women’s golf head coach Jan Mann has been elected by the National Golf Coaches Association to serve on the Board of Directors, NGCA executive director Roger M. Yaffe announced on Monday.
Mann will serve as the Division I representative for the 2005-06 academic year.
Named the 2005 ACC Coach of the Year, Mann guided the Cavaliers through their first NCAA East Regional last weekend during the team’s second season of existence. The team finished fifth and now advances to the national championship on May 17-20 in Sunriver, Ore.
Hired in 2002 to launch women’s golf as UVa’s 25th intercollegiate sport in the fall of 2003, Mann guided the Cavaliers to a third-place finish at the 2005 ACC Championship in just its second season. Under her guidance, UVa has posted six Top 10 finishes this season en route to its first-ever appearance in the NCAA Championship.
The Cavaliers also made remarkable contributions in the classroom. As a team, women’s golf had the highest cumulative team grade-point average of Virginia’s 25 sports for the fall 2004 semester. The Cavaliers sports a 3.34 team GPA, beating out women’s volleyball which had a 3.1 GPA.
Additionally, Mann serves on the NCAA Women’s Division I Golf Committee and co-chairs the NCAA Regional Advisory Committee. She is also a member of the NGCA Education Committee and the LPGA Coaches Advisory Committee. In October 2003, Mann was named Chair of the NCAA Women’s Division I Golf Committee. Golf Digest recognized her in 2000 and 2001 as one of the top teachers in North Carolina. In July of 2003, Mann coached the U.S. to its eighth straight win in the USA vs. Japan Collegiate Golf Championship in Sano, Japan.
A native of Jacksonville, N.C., and a cum laude graduate of UNC Wilmington, Mann is a Class A member of the Professional Golf Association (PGA) and Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Teaching and Club Professional Division.
Since 1993, Mann has also designed and sculpted statuettes for her own business, Mann’s Art Productions. Projects include the “Seahawk” for UNCW, the “Pirate” for East Carolina, the “Golf Lad” for the 1999 U.S. Open, and the “Golf Lad” for the 2005 U.S. Open.
