CHARLOTTESVILLE – Radio station Star 94.3 FM (WTON) in Staunton, Va., has joined the University of Virginia Sports Network and will air Cavalier programming beginning with the 2005 football season.

“We were looking for a quality radio partner in the Shenandoah Valley with terrific signal strength to enable us to reach University of Virginia fans in Staunton, Harrisonburg, Waynesboro and Lexington,” said Mac McDonald, director of broadcasting for Cavalier Sports Marketing and “Voice of the Virginia Cavaliers.” “Star 94.3 is a terrific station with great people and a tremendous following. They will give our radio network a huge shot in the arm.”

J. Gary Ratcliff and Pioneer Media Alliance owns Star 94.3 FM.

“This is great for us,” Ratcliff said. “When the University of Virginia approached us regarding the affiliation we felt it was a very good move for us.”

Virginia opens the 2005 football season on September 3 against Western Michigan University in Charlottesville.
