CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Atlantic Coast Conference announced the 2005-06 women’s basketball schedule on Thursday.

The Virginia Cavaliers, who finished last season at 21-11, open the season at George Washington on Friday, Nov. 18. UVa’s home opener is set for Sunday, Nov. 20 with Wright State.

The Cavaliers then head to St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, for the 2005 Paradise Jam on Nov. 25-26. The four-team tournament will also feature Alabama, Minnesota, and Nevada.

“Our schedule will be very challenging for our young team,” said Virginia head coach Debbie Ryan. “Our non-conference schedule will definitely provide us with excellent competition to prepare us for the rigors of ACC play. We are really looking forward to getting on the court and preparing for the season.”

Virginia returns home on Dec. 3 to host Harvard. The Cavaliers travel to Seton Hall (Dec. 7) and intra-state rival Richmond (Dec. 18). UVa entertains Marshall (Dec. 20) before hosting the 2005 Cavalier Classic. Boston University, Holy Cross, and Yale will participate in this year’s Classic.

UVa opens 2006 with a non-conference home game against Middle Tennessee State (Jan. 2) before travelling to Marquette (Jan. 4).

The Cavaliers begin Atlantic Coast Conference play at Florida State on Jan. 8. UVa will visit Miami, Boston College, Duke, and Wake Forest, while hosting NC State, North Carolina, Georgia Tech, and Clemson for the teams’ only regular-season meeting.

With the addition of Boston College this season as the 12th conference member, all schools will play 14 league games. UVa will play only intra-state rival Virginia Tech, Maryland, and Florida State twice (home and away).

Virginia will make at least five television appearances. Appearing on the Regional Sports Network (Fox Sports Net South, HTS, Sunshine Network) four times, UVa will face NC State (Jan. 13), Virginia Tech (Jan. 16), Maryland (Jan. 20), and Florida State (Jan. 29). Additionally, the Cavaliers host North Carolina (Feb. 12) in a nationally televised contest on espn2.

The 2006 ACC Tournament is slated for March 2-5 at the Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, N.C.
