Devvarman and Miklo Advance to Third Round of Qualifying at Futures Event

CLAREMONT, Calif. – Two members of the Virginia men’s tennis team continued their strong play at the Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center USTA Pro Classic on the USTA Futures Circuit. Somdev Devvarman (Chennai, India) and Marko Miklo (Bratislava, Slovakia) each won in Saturday’s second round of the qualifying draw.
Devvarman, who enters the fall ranked No. 12 in the ITA collegiate rankings, defeated K.C. Corkery, a senior at Stanford and currently ranked No. 9 in the ITA collegiate rankings, in his second round match. He defeated Corkery 7-6, 4-6, 6-1 to advance to the third round on Sunday.
Miklo cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Chris Guido in his second round match. Miklo, ranked No. 61 in the preseason ITA rankings, will meet Antonio Ruiz, a senior at Georgia who ended last season ranked No. 59 in the ITA rankings, in the third round Sunday.
The USTA Futures Tour is a professional tour designed for players building their professional careers. Current college players are allowed to play on the tour to gain experience and improve their ranking, while not accepting prize money.
