Virginia’s Allison Flynn laid a perfect pass upfield to Lindsey O’Bannon, and O’Bannon touched it forward before scoring in today’s contest against #3 Duke, but the Cavaliers still fell to the Blue Devils 5-1 in the ACC quarterfinals today in College Park. Katherine Blair made 10 saves in the contest, including one on a penalty flick in the twelfth minute to keep the Blue Devils off the scoreboard.

After a flurry in front of the cage, Duke drew a penalty flick, the first called against the Cavaliers in 2005. Blair was more than up to the task, denying the low attempt to her left, keeping the score tied at 0-0 in the 12th minute of play.

The Blue Devils (15-3) scored twice in the opening period and then notched a pair of direct short corner goals in the second half before scoring a fifth goal in the 61st minute to take a 5-0 lead.

The Cavaliers answered as Erin Hayes sent a pass from the backfield up to Katie Phillips, who started a break. Phillips passed the ball up to Flynn, who eluded a defender and sent a lead pass up to O’Bannon, who was in the circle. O’Bannon touched the ball forward, got around the Duke keeper, and slammed the ball into the open cage with 19 seconds to play in the contest.
