Virginia Tied for Fourth at The Derby Invite

AUBURN, Ala. – The Virginia women’s golf team is tied for fourth of 17 teams after the first round of The Derby Invitational on Friday.
Host Auburn leads the field with a 291 (+3). Georgia and top-ranked DUke follow by three strokes with a 294 (+6). The Cavaliers are tied with Tennessee with a 297 (+9) each.
Individually, Auburn’s Maria Martinez leads all players with a three-under 69. Duke’s Elizabeth Janangelo and Georgia’s Taylor Leon are tied for second with a one-under 71.
Sophomore Lauren Mielbrecht (Gulf Stream, Fla.) and junior Leah Wigger (Louisville, Ky.) are tied for eighth with a 73 (+1) each. Freshman Carly Truitt (Marysville, Ohio) is tied for 19th with a 75 (+3), while junior Rachel Smith (Powell, Tenn.) shot a 76 (+4). Junior Lindsay Robinson (Huntington, W.V.) rounded out the UVa scoring with a 78 (+6).
Second round action at The Derby Invitational tees off on Saturday, Nov. 5 at 8:30 a.m. CST.
