The Virginia women’s cross country team received a bid to the 2005 NCAA National Championships today and will join the men in Terre Haute, Indiana to compete for the national title on Monday, Nov. 21. This marks the first year that both the men and the women will compete at the same national championships in Virginia history.

“I’m very proud of both of our squads,” said head coach Jason Dunn. “The men responded to the pressure and our women battled back from injury to return to this stage, which is a testament to both teams.”

The ACC Champion men earned the bid after finishing second in the southeast region, taking one of the automatic qualifying berths. The women finished third at the regional meet, upsetting #12 Wake Forest and #24 UNC 12 days after finishing behind both of these teams at the ACC Championships.

Indiana State University will host the 2005 NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Championships, November 21, at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course located at the Wabash Valley Family Sports Center, Terre Haute, Indiana. The men’s race will begin at noon (EST) followed by the women’s race at 1:15 p.m.
