CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Virginia men’s tennis team was selected to compete in the 2006 National Team Indoor Championships as the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced the field of 16 teams. The event, which annually invites the nation’s top teams, will be held this year February 17-20 in Seattle, Wash.

This is the second time the Cavaliers have been invited to the prestigious tournament. Last year, Virginia became the first school in the history of the tournament to reach the finals in its first ever appearance. The Cavaliers were seeded No. 9 at last year’s event, held in Chicago, and downed No. 7 Stanford, No. 2 UCLA, and No. 6 Ole Miss before falling to No. 1 Baylor in the final.

Every team ranked in the top ten of last season’s final rankings will be competing in the tournament (UCLA, Baylor, Mississippi, Florida, Virginia, Illinois, Georgia, Pepperdine, Duke, and LSU), as will Florida State, South Carolina, and host Washington, which all ranked in last season’s top 20. The field also includes Penn, the Northeast Region representative, and a team from the Central Region and one from the Mountain Region (both to be determined later).
