Virginia’s Katherine Blair, a member of the USA Junior National team that took seventh at the Junior World Cup for this nation’s top finish ever at the event, was named to the VaSID All-State Hockey Team, University Division, as announced by the organization. Blair was the only keeper on the first team. Fellow Virginia student-athletes Allie Flynn, Mia Link and Katie Phillips were also honored with selection to the second team.

Blair, a member of the Junior National team since 2004, is one of the top young keepers in the nation. She was named a third-team All-American by womensfieldhockey.com in 2005 and earned second-team All-Regional honors by the NFHCA. Blair won a title in the 2004 USFHA Summer League as the Junior Nationals won a strokeoff.

Flynn was one of Virginia’s most versatile players in 2005, playing on every line from the backfield to the forward line. She ranked among the nation’s top-20 for assists for most of the season and earned second-team All-Regional honors from the NFHCA. Flynn ranked second on the team in scoring, including two game-winning goals, including the upset of then-#15 JMU.

Link was a teammate of Blair’s on the USA Junior National team that finished seventh at the Junior World Cup in September. She had six goals, two of which were game-winners and one that tied #5 American in the latter stage of the game. Even though she missed four games while with Team USA, she earned second-team All-Regional honors by the NFHCA.

Phillips led the team in scoring with 27 points and ranked in the national top-20 for most of the season. She had four goals in the win over Ball State and twice had two-goal games against in-state teams, including then-#15 JMU. Phillips started 76 of 79 games in her career and finished ranked #11 all-time at Virginia in scoring with 83 points.
