CHARLOTTESVILLE – University of Virginia men’s head basketball coach Dave Leitao announced on Thursday (Dec. 22) that Donte Minter is no longer on the team for personal reasons. He is not expected to return to the team.

“Donte is a fine young man and I wish him well,” Leitao said.

Minter, a 6-8 junior forward/center from Salisbury, N.C., has not played in a game for the Cavaliers this season.

Minter lettered for Virginia the last two seasons. He played in all 31 games for the Cavaliers and started three as a freshman during the 2003-04 season. He averaged 5.6 points and 2.6 rebounds a game that season, while shooting 56.0 percent (70-125) from the field and 71.7 percent (33-46) from the free throw line.

Minter was hampered by injuries in 2004-05. He played in 18 games that season, scoring 23 points and grabbing nine rebounds.
