CHARLOTTESVILLE – Virginia women’s tennis signee Kristen McVitty (Woodland Hills, Calif.) won the Girls 18s singles title at the National Winter Championships in Scottsdale, Ariz. last week. With the victory at the prestigious tournament, McVitty moved to the No. 1 in the latest USTA Girls 18s national rankings.

Kristen McVitty won the gold ball at the tournament by defeating seven nationally ranked players, including four in the top 40. She defeated three top 15 ranked players, in the quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals of the tournament, all in straight sets.

McVitty will next compete at the 2006 Junior Australian Open later this month.

McVitty is one of four players that signed national letters of intent in November and will join the Cavaliers in the Fall of 2006.
